Kris Horton front picture for Voyage San Antonio interview

Featured in Voyage San Antonio: The Story Behind My Art & What Keeps Me Creating

I still remember feeling a little nervous when Voyage San Antonio reached out to feature me in their Daily Inspiration series. Talking about yourself — your journey, your why, the messy and meaningful parts of being an artist — doesn't always come naturally. But I said yes, and I'm so glad I did.

The interview gave me a chance to share something I don't always slow down enough to say out loud: why I paint, what keeps me coming back to the canvas, and how growing up in South Texas shaped not just my subjects but my soul as an artist.

In the article I opened up about my love for South Texas landscapes, wildlife, and the quiet beauty that surrounds us here. I talked about the pets we love, the flowers that bloom along back roads, and the wide open skies that make this place feel like nowhere else. Those things aren't just subjects I paint — they're the reason I paint.

I also shared some of the real stuff. The challenges of being a working artist. The vulnerability of handing a finished commission to someone and hoping it captures everything they love about their pet. The joy when it does.

If you're new here — welcome. I'm Kris, a South Texas artist creating warm, meaningful artwork inspired by nature, pets, and the feeling of home. I'd love for you to look around, and if something speaks to you, I hope it finds a place on your walls.

And if you haven't joined my email list yet, that's the best place to be. You'll get first looks at new work, behind the scenes peeks, and occasional stories like this one — straight to your inbox.

Thank you for being part of this journey. It means more than you know. 💛

XO, Kris
