3 Gallery Wall Layouts That Never Fail

Posted by Kris Horton on

Gallery walls can feel overwhelming to put together — but they don't have to be. Whether you're working with florals, landscapes, a mix, or something completely different, these three simple layouts work every time. All you need is the right arrangement and art that feels like home.

Quick styling tip: keep frame finishes consistent (all light wood or all gold/black) and let the art do the talking.

Layout #1: The Trio

Place 3 pieces in a straight line.

✔ Clean
✔ Balanced
✔ Modern

Works beautifully above:
• A couch
• A bed
• A console table

Tip: Keep frames the same size for a polished look.

Layout #2: The Stair Step

Arrange pieces diagonally upward.

✔ Great for hallways
✔ Perfect along stairs
✔ Feels collected over time

Tip: Keep spacing consistent (about 2–3 inches between frames).

Works best with 2–5 pieces.

Layout #3: The Cluster

1 or 2 larger anchor pieces

  • 4–6 smaller pieces around it

✔ Cozy
✔ Artistic
✔ Statement-making

Tip: Start with your largest piece in the center and build outward.

***Not sure which layout fits your space? Start with The Trio — it works almost everywhere

If you're building a gallery wall and want pieces that work together, head to my collections and filter by size or orientation once you're there — it makes finding the right fit so much easier.
